Moves, Adds and Changes

Whenever you have a change in your requirements, and may need to carry out Moves, Adds or Changes to your hardware, network or software (abbreviated as MAC in the computer industry). At first glance, this may seem pretty simple, but there are a lot of subtle issues, including:
  • Moves: if you need to move computers, printers, networks and other equipment from one room to another, you have to make sure that all cables are properly disconnected and reconnected. You need to perform  testing to make sure that everything still works, and you don't get a surprise later when you have an important deadline.
  • Adds: you need to make sure that the new hardware and software that you are adding completely compatible with the systems you are adding it to. You  need to perform some testing to ensure not only that the new hardware and software work, but that everything else still works as well.
  • Changes: something as simple as moving hardware or software from one computer to another, or a simple change to your network configuration required ensuring that the change is compatible with the target system, and that you have tested the changes to ensure that they work and have not had any negative effects on your systems.
